From our door to yoursHomeVet Provides In-home Vet Services

HomeVet is a concierge service offered by Lakeshore Veterinary Hospital. HomeVet will give you the ability to have veterinary services done in your home.

We know how difficult it can be to get some pets to the vet. Sometimes the overall health and/or size of the pet make in-home care the best option to get your pet the care they need. When we come to your home, we eliminate a potentially stressful car ride and hospital visit. With HomeVet a doctor and technician come to you. If your pet needs more extensive care and some services cannot be done in your home, our team will transport them to our clinic and safely back home to you afterward.

Our doctors can do a comprehensive physical exam, get blood, urine, cultures, fecal, or aspirate samples to send out to our laboratory or be examined at Lakeshore Veterinary Hospital. We can give injections and subcutaneous fluids. We will get any necessary medication dispensed and put together a treatment plan for your pet.

From our personal experiences of helping our friend’s and family’s pets we know that having the ability to get in touch with your veterinarian after hours can be invaluable when you have questions and concerns about your pet. We are excited to be able to offer these services as well as telemedicine.

Lastly, we also offer the ability to have a peaceful euthanasia done in the comfort of your home where your pet is most comfortable and at ease.  We are honored to be there to help both of you during such a difficult time. We will handle the arrangements for cremation for you too.

One of our doctors will talk with you about your concerns and/ or  questions surrounding euthanasia. 

Once your decision is made to move forward with euthanasia an IV catheter will be placed. A sedative will then be given that allows your pet to go to sleep peacefully prior to the euthansia medication. You can spend some time saying goodbye. The final part will be to administer the euthanasia solution to let your pet pass on. This is the most selfless gift we can provide our pets when they are suffering and no longer have quality of life. 

After the euthanasia, our doctor will be able to transport your pet for cremation (if desired), or you may choose to keep your pet for home burial. There is an excellent pet crematorium in New Orleans called Heaven's Pets (www.heavenspets.com) whom we have worked with for many years. If cremation is sought for your pet, you can fill out a pre-planning form at the Heaven's Pets website in advance, or contact them via phone to make advance arrangements at (504) 482-7387. From years of experience working with them, they have handled this process with the utmost care and respect that pets and their families deserve.  They offer both private cremation and communal cremation and after hours drop off services.  Please click on this link for pricing associated with cremation through Heaven’s Pets. If we are dropping off after hours a representative from Heaven’s Pets will contact you to discuss your wishes and collect any costs involved with your pets cremation.
